CHAPTER 6

On the edge of the Draco solar system, the two opposing space fleets bombarded each other with destructive force. Weapons fire from energy cannons streaked through the vacuum like meteorites. Torpedoes exploded like miniature suns.

The Coalition carriers launched individual fighters that zipped under and around enemy fire and peppered the Draco ships. In turn, swarms of Draco strike craft were deployed to combat the Coalition fighters.

The space between the two fleets became a flurry of zooming spacecraft. Debris from destroyed fighters glittered like stars.

“Concentrate fire on the Draco flagship. Take out their leader,” General Barrett ordered. “What’s that saying? Cut off of the head of the snake and the body will die? Very appropriate in this situation.”

The battleship Ares continued to lead the Coalition armada in relentlessly attacking the enemy flagship. The energy shields of the Draco’s ship flickered and almost failed.

Seeing this weakness, Barrett ordered the Ares to move in. He sent his ship at full speed toward the Draco vessel.

“Does the human commander think to ram my ship?” Histaah gasped as he watched the Ares head straight for him. “He is mad!”

Histaah ordered his crew to return fire with everything in the ship’s arsenal. Cannons blazed. Torpedoes erupted. The Ares responded in kind, and kept on coming. The exchange formed a sphere of blinding energy between the two ships and expanded until both vessels were swallowed by the great ball of fire.

And then, something inside the flaming sphere blew up.
